Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a bone disease that decreases the bone marrow density (BMD) from loss of calcium, which increases the chance of fracturing bones. The disease is most common in women seeing that women have a lower bone mass, live longer, and accommodate less calcium than men. They also need estrogen, a female hormone, to keep their bones strong. Although, there are not many symptoms of the disease, some signs of osteoporosis are: broken bones, pain in the back and muscles, and a hunched back. In order to prevent osteoporosis, women should make sure they are getting enough calcium, vitamins, and exercise. Smokers should also quit smoking seeing that tobacco will worsen the disease.
